It’s been a long time since I last posted. The Covid pandemic has affected us all and whilst having intense concerns about the coronavirus outbreak was perfectly normal, some people suffered more than others. Bereavement, isolation, loss of income, uncertainty about the future and fear were triggering mental health conditions or exacerbating existing ones. Many people may have faced increased levels of alcohol and drug use, insomnia, stress and depression. Some people experienced intense anxiety that affected their daily life and changed their behaviours.

The UK Government website states that the Covid outbreak has directly affected people’s mental health and has driven up numbers of people suffering from anxiety, depression and other mental illnesses.

Champion Health UK report said that during 2020 adults stress levels went up by 58%, anxiety by 63% and depression by 58%.

New data from the Office for National Statistics reveals that depression/anxiety rates have doubled since the Covid pandemic began, forewarns of a growing mental health crisis in the UK. Particularly concerning is that those in more precarious economic positions or burdened by existing inequalities – young people, women, clinically vulnerable adults, disabled people and those living in the most deprived areas of England – have been disproportionately affected.

In the U.S. the situation was almost the same. According to the report by Statista, in 2020 they witnessed the raise in adult’s anxiety and depression by 42.4%.

These numbers are frightening and calling everyone to look after each other as much as we can, but most of all to take a good care of ourselves. More than ever we all need to know how to help ourselves and therefore I have put together a guide that is free and accessible to anyone. I have shared in it my experience from working with people suffering from trauma, intense fear and uncertainty. As a result of trauma, anxiety is one of the most common feeling people experience. Therefore to know how to help yourself is the key. I have made it as easy to read as possible and I hope you will find it useful.
